Cletus Bob and Ellie May were quite the orthodox farmers. Each Spring they would plant their crops like clockwork to have a bountiful harvest in Fall. Unfortunately, as they grew older, they also grew forgetful and their crops did not get rotated. Eventually, the crops withered and died. Sadly, with no vegetables to eat, their farm animals became sick with avian flu, mad cow disease and other such illnesses that accompany one eating one’s own kind. Cletus Bob and Ellie May would have died too if it wasn’t for all that perfectly good, bacteria-laden, rotting animal meat lying around. While their new, high protein diet definitely took a toll, old Cletus Bob and Ellie May survived… sort of. Having traded in their pitchfork for a shovel, they now farm high protein crops to appease their newly acquired culinary tastes – things like Mailmen, Girl Scouts, hobos and traveling salesmen – but they enjoy marathon runners most of all because, like most Americans, they just love their fast food.

Ghoulish Factoid: We were hard at work on an American Gothic-inspired changing portrait when out of nowhere, we received an email from a fan/artist in Mexico. He had seen our site, thought it was great and asked if he could submit a concept. We e-mailed him back an enthusiastic “Yes” and a few minutes later we received American Rottage. Coincidence or fate, this guy’s art was pretty good and he saved us a ton of work. Thanks Armando! You art fits in well with our classic art line of changing portraits. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
